Guide to Kakegawa Central Library

Welcome to Kakegawa Central Library. We're pleased to meet you. We lend books, magazines, CDs, videotapes and other useful materials.
Please obey the following rules of the Library so that everyone can enjoy our facilities.

Service hours

Open Tuesday, Friday - Sunday: 9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday: 9:00a.m. - 7:00p.m.
Closed Monday
The last Friday of every month (for inventory)
Year-end and New Year holidays (from December 29th to January 4th)

Loan of library materials

When you borrow materials, you need to have your library card. Library cards are available free of charge to anyone residing in Kakegawa and neighboring cities, and working or studying in Kakegawa.

Returning Library Materials

Borrowed items should be returned to the Circulation Counter of the library. When the library is closed, they can be returned to the book drop located near the entrance. Audio-visual materials are easily damaged, so please avoid putting them into the book drop.

Photocopying Service

Library materials can be photocopied within copyright restrictions. Please submit an application form for photocopying.

Costs (per copy) Monochrome - 10 yens Color - 50 yens

We'll help you with your research. Please feel free to ask the library staff anything you would like to know.

Services for children

The library has a lot of picture books, picture-card shows, and storybooks in Japanese and foreign languages for children in the children's department. There is a story-telling room where books are read aloud, and we also give some lectures on picture books.

Reservations and Requests

If books you want to read have been checked out, you can reserve them. When they become available, we'll notify you. If the library doesn't have the books, you can make requests for the purchase of them or borrow them from other libraries.

Computers with Internet Access

The internet can be accessed and CDs, DVDs, and videotapes can be tried for 30 minutes free of charge. Those requiring these services should make a request at the Circulation Counter.

Local Collections Room

On the second floor we have Local Collections Room. There are exhibitions of Kamejiro Matsumoto who made a grate achievement his teaching Japanese to foreign students, and the studies of ancient Japanese thought and culture, and replicas of excavated articles from the neighborhood.

Multicultural Section

There are some books in foreign language and for the study of Japanese in this section.
